The Area
The Corbyn Head Hotel is only a short walk away from the shops and attractions of Torquay town centre, and very close to the popular seaside town of Paignton. Nearby you can find the Model Village at Babbacombe, Kents Cavern prehistoric caves, the Living Coasts aquatic centre and the famous Paignton Zoo, as well as the traditional seaside activities one would expect on the English Riviera. An evening at a show is an entertaining option with Torquay's Princess Theatre just along the seafront. Torbay's third town, the small port of Brixham, is always worth a visit for its numerous seafood stalls and colourful fishing boats. For the more active guest, Torbay and its surrounding area provide a wealth of things to do, from water sports to deep sea fishing, and horse-riding to golf, with several fine golf courses nearby. The hotel is also the perfect base from which to explore the miles of glorious coastal walks and the stunning Devon countryside, where you'll find some of the country's most breath-taking scenery. There are many castles, National Trust properties (including Agatha Christie's estate, Greenway) and other country parks to visit, not to mention the ruggedly beautiful landscape of Dartmoor National Park, just a short drive away, with its famed granite tors, ponies and foreboding prison at Princetown. Within close proximity of Torquay are the picturesque towns of Totnes, with its Norman castle and original shops, and Dartmouth, with its grand naval college, beautifully situated on the banks of the River Dart and easily accessible from nearby Paignton by steam train followed by passenger ferry. Further afield you will find excellent shopping in the cathedral city of Exeter, and to the south the naval port of Plymouth, where Sir Francis Drake played his infamous game of bowls in the face of the approaching Spanish Armada. Just over the border the neighbouring county of Cornwall makes a pleasant daytrip, offering long, sandy beaches, rocky coves, quaint fishing villages and rugged cliffs. The celebrated biodomes of the Eden Project are approximately two hours away, and are a definite must-see on any holiday to the Westcountry. With so many places of interest, you'll never be short of things to do whilst staying at the Corbyn Head Hotel. Enjoy your holiday! Places to visit:
